Jeremy Miller Reflects On His Teenage Love Triangle With Candace Cameron And Danica McKellar

While we were all watching the families of “Growing Pains,” “Full House” and “The Wonder Years” go through their various ups and downs in the late 1980s, there was some additional drama taking place behind the scenes. Apparently, the young stars of those sitcoms — Jeremy Miller, Candace Cameron Bure and Danica McKellar — were involved in a teen love triangle that Jeremy says ended in heartbreak.

As he tells “Oprah: Where Are They Now — Extra” in the above video, Jeremy first began “dating” Candace back when he was on “Growing Pains” with Candace’s older brother, Kirk. Jeremy was just 11 years old at the time, and says that his relationship with the “Full House” star was truly as innocent as could be.

“Candace and I were ‘going together.’ You know, we didn’t go anywhere; we were kids… There’s no going anywhere, you just were ‘together,’ whatever the heck that meant!” Jeremy says. “We saw each other on the set. She’d come with the family and stuff to visit us while we were working. We’d see each other at parties for ‘Growing Pains’ and stuff like that. When she started doing ‘Full House,’ we started going over there and visiting.”

Then, Jeremy crossed paths with Danica, of “The Wonder Years” fame.

“I think we were doing an event for Teen Beat magazine,” he says. “I was pretty smitten from Day One.”

Danica, however, didn’t reciprocate those feelings. “She was a couple of years older than me at that point. I was 12, I think she was 14. She had no interest in me whatsoever because I was younger,” Jeremy says, chuckling. “But that did not deter me.”

Jeremy was so taken by Danica that he decided to end things with Candace. To help woo his new love interest, Jeremy planned a memorable first date.

“It was 1988, and ‘Batman’ was coming out. I called up our people at Warner Bros. and I said, ‘You’ve got to get me two tickets…’ And they did,” he recalls. “I asked [Danica] if she’d like to go to the premiere with me, rented a limo, came and picked her up. We went, had a great time. We hit it off, had a ball… Went and had some ice cream afterwards, sat and talked for two hours.”

The two became a couple soon after that. “That was probably my first real dating relationship,” Jeremy adds.

Of course, not everyone was swooning over the romance. “Apparently, I broke Candace’s heart at that point,” Jeremy says.

It’s safe to say that all three former teen stars have long moved on from the love triangle of their youth. Candace married NHL player Valeri Bure in 1996, Danica married attorney Scott Sveslosky last November and Jeremy is married to wife Joanie. The 38-year-old actor looks back on his early relationships with fondness and only has good things to say about the women that Candace and Danica have become.

“They’re both wonderful, wonderful ladies,” Jeremy says. “I’m very lucky to have good friends like that, from so far back, that still care about me and that I still get to hang out with and see occasionally.”
