Donald Trump’s former campaign advisor is confident that the real estate mogul’s misogynistic comments won’t hurt him in the polls, he told HuffPost Live in a conversation on Friday.

“I think the overriding issues here [are] are the economy… [and] terrorism,” said Roger Stone, who presided over Trump’s campaign up until Aug. 8.

Trump shocked liberals and conservatives alike after stating that Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly had “blood coming out of her wherever” while moderating the Republican debate on Aug. 6. According to Stone, however, that offense won’t jeopardize Trump’s standing as the GOP frontrunner, including among female voters.

“In all honesty, the women who will find that [comment] offensive aren’t voting in the Republican primary, by and large, and they’re not inclined to be Trump voters anyway,” he said.

But that doesn’t mean that the candidate isn’t in favor of bolstering women, Stone asserted.

“There’s no question: Trump should emphasize his record on women,” he said, adding that Trump has “elevated women” in his companies. “He’s better on pay quality for women than Hillary Clinton. … Donald and his company have promoted women — more women executives. Women, in many cases, are paid more than men or equal to men.”
