All Nippon Airways Adds Two More 'Star Wars' Planes To Lineup

Somewhere in a galaxy near, near you, official “Star Wars” planes will take off soon.

Tokyo-based All Nippon Airways has unveiled two new designs for its growing fleet of “Star Wars” jets.

Back in April, the airline announced an R2-D2 plane was in the works. Earlier this week, the company announced two new aircrafts. One will be decked out to look like BB-8, a new character from the upcoming “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” film. Another plane will feature both R2-D2 and BB-8.

The “Star Wars” flights, which start in mid-October, will be the first in the world to show the entire “Star Wars” film series onboard as in-flight entertainment, according to a company press release. Journeys will also include Star Wars headrest covers, napkins, cups and decorations, the Wall Street Journal reports.

All Nippon’s R2-D2 Jet will be the first of the fleet to take off: On October 18, the plane will start flying a route from Tokyo to Vancouver, gradually adding flights to Sydney, Beijing, Paris and “beyond.”

The double-character “Star Wars” Jet will begin service throughout Japan in winter 2015, and the BB-8 Jet will fly primarily North American routes starting in spring 2016.
