These Shows Made The Biggest Waves On Twitter This Year

The year’s most tweeted-about shows have been revealed.

Nielsen, the company behind the highly criticized television ratings system, compiled Twitter data from September of 2013 to May of 2014 to create an infographic illustrating the shows that made the biggest waves on Twitter.

Nielsen and Twitter announced back in 2012 they would be partnering to analyze which TV shows sparked the most interest among the social network’s users, starting in the fall of 2013. “Twitter has become the world’s digital water cooler, where conversations about TV happen in real time,” Twitter Vice President of Media Chloe Sladden said in a statement at the time.

To analyze the crush of data from Twitter, Nielsen examined only U.S.-based tweets about TV shows and events “from three hours before, during and three hours after airing, local time,” per the infographic. “Unique audience of Tweets ascribed to an airing is measured from when the Tweets are sent until the end of the broadcast day at 5 a.m.”

“Breaking Bad” tops the list for most-mentioned series, the Oscars were the most buzz-worthy TV special and, naturally, the Super Bowl was the biggest event in sports.
