Aquaman Movie Nets 2 Screenwriters

It appears Warner Bros. has hired not one but two screenwriters to draft scripts for the upcoming Aquaman movie. The two writers, Will Beall and Kurt Johnstad, won’t be working together, however. They’ll each be writing their own draft so the studio can choose between them.

Beall is best known for last year’s Josh Brolin-starring Gangster Squad, though he also worked on the TV show Castle for several years, and wrote an earlier draft of the Justice League movie. Johnstad wrote Batman v Superman director Zack Snyder’s 300. He also wrote the sequel, 300: Rise of an Empire, and the Navy SEAL drama Act of Valor.

The idea behind dual track script development is that the studio won’t be committed to either version at first, which is helpful when time is of the essence. According to THR, Warners made the call in part because the release dates for nine untitled DC movies were recently revealed and the clock is now ticking.
