“We’ll take a first class one-way ticket to chic on Chanel Airlines, please!”
That’s exactly what we’re begging for this morning after seeing the spectacular airport-themed Chanel Spring 2016 show at Paris Fashion Week. Karl Lagerfeld, the French fashion house’s creative director, designed the airport of our dreams — where lines flow like wine, there are no luggage size limitations (or extra charges), and everyone is dripping in Chanel.
Models strutted through the Grand Palais, which was transformed into a “Chanel Airport” terminal that boasted details like a check-in desk, departure gates, and a huge flight status board. There were even handsome male flight attendants.
As far as the clothing was concerned, the sophisticated (there’s always plenty of iconic tweed suiting) yet relaxed designs (airplane motif sweatshirts and baseball caps) are definitely the type of clothes we’d like to jet set in.
And perhaps the most eye-catching element of the show were the light-up Velcro sandals that a few models showed off.

We can always count on Lagerfeld to deliver an awe-inspiring show. Last season a protest was staged, a few seasons before that the scene was a grocery store, and we’ll never forget the time models actually paraded out of a gigantic Chanel sweater jacket. In short, these shows are epic and worthy of the sartorial splendor that Lagerfeld sends down the catwalk.
The front row — or should we say the first class section — at Tuesday’s show was occupied by A-listers like Reese Witherspoon, Anna Wintour, Janelle Monae, Lily-Rose Depp, and the adorable pint-sized model (and Lagerfeld’s godson) Hudson Kroenig, who was dressed as a Chanel Airlines pilot.
