Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton have at least one person rooting for them — Christina Aguilera. The 34-year-old had nothing but good things to say about the new lovebirds who are part of her “Voice” family.
“I’ve known Gwen for a really long time,” Aguilera told Us Weekly at Verizon’s HopeLine campaign event in Los Angeles on Thursday. “We went to each others’ kids birthday parties, we share the same management, and Blake I know now from the show.”
Aguilera went on to call Stefani and Shelton “great people,” and said she thinks the fact that they’ve found one another is “awesome.” The singer added that she can relate to the couple, who are both dealing with high-profile divorces, since she split from her husband Jordan Bratman back in 2010.
“I keep telling them both to stay strong and have fun! Divorce and life is hard enough! If you find someone who makes you happy, you gotta go for it. So they deserve it and they deserve to be happy!” she told Us Weekly.
Shelton and Stefani’s new romance comes just three months after the country singer announced his divorce from Miranda Lambert, and just two months after the No Doubt frontwoman split from Gavin Rossdale, whom she was married to for almost 13 years.
And while the”Genie in a Bottle” singer is clearly happy for them, she told Access Hollywood she didn’t exactly believe the rumors when they first started buzzing.
“I think there was starting to be rumors about it, and I was like, [laughs] ‘Yeah, right, Blake!’ It was just funny. We were just palling around, joking around. And then it became real,” she said.
When asked if she’s been able to congratulate the new couple, Aguilera told Access Hollywood she gave their relationship a very memorable blessing.
“I actually got the chance to tell her in person. I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m happy. It’s hard, I know. Divorce is tough … You get that cowboy, girl!'”
