Marvel Studios is in talks with scripter Jon Spaihts to write their Doctor Strange movie.
Deadline has the report, adding that Marvel hopes to “put this one in production on a fast track.” As previously reported, the studio has their eye on Tom Hardy or Benedict Cumberbatch to play the titular Master of the Mystic Arts. Jared Leto, hot off of his Oscar win for Dallas Buyers Club, is also said to be on the studio’s short list.
Spaihts previously worked on the scripts for The Darkest Hour and Prometheus (the latter of which Damon Lindelof rewrote), and he also has Universal’s The Mummy reboot screenplay on his roster. Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer were reported to have written a previous draft of Doctor Strange for Marvel; it is unclear whether or not Spaihts will work from that draft or start from scratch.
