Willow Smith Just Dropped Her Surprise Debut Album

Willow Smith had been teasing on Twitter that she had something in the works and now we know why — she just dropped a surprise debut album!

The 15-year-old daughter of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith released a 15-track album on Friday, called “Ardipithecus.”

She told USA Today that she chose the title “Ardipithecus” because she was “digging deep in the soil” of her heart while making the album.

The word itself is part of the term “Ardipithecu ramidus” which refers to discovered bones that were perceived as the “roots of humanity,” according to the National Museum of Natural History.

“I wanted to name my musical compilation after it because, while I was making these songs I was in such a transitional state,” she told USA Today. “Digging deep in the soil of my heart and finding bits and pieces of my ancient self that tell stories, which end up being the lyrics to the songs.”

Smith released her debut single,“Whip My Hair,” five years ago which was followed by “21st Century Girl” and “Fireball” featuring Nicki Minaj in 2011. Her reflective single “Why Don’t You Cry” in collaboration with I-D came out in September.

Check out the album — which was released through Roc Nation Records — on iTunes, Spotify and Tidal.

Go girl!
