We were thrilled to have director and actor Ron Howard on the show, who’s just released his newest film, In The Heart Of The Sea. Ron has had an amazing career in television and film, as both an actor and as an Academy Award-winning director. Ron chats about what made him want to direct this movie, how he prepared his actors, and the real secret for of being married 40 years.
How does Ron decide what films to direct?
In our lively chat, Ron talks to us about what he wants most out of a movie he directs. “My favorite thing is to combine the ‘big’ experience with more interesting actor moments,” he explains, ultimately telling us that it’s the “character driven” qualities that inspire him. But that doesn’t stop him from mixing it up, as Apollo 13 and A Beautiful Mind are certainly quite different types of films. When pressed as to why he’s never turned his 40-year marriage into a film, he acknowledges that there’s more than “a little bit of luck involved.”
