Sin City 2 a Huge Flop at Weekend Box Office

Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame To Kill For was stomped at the domestic box office this weekend by Guardians of the Galaxy and the teen tear-jerker If I Stay.

The Sin City sequel — nearly a decade in the making — debuted in 8th place with an estimated $6.5 million, well behind industry expectations. The first Sin City opened to $29.1 million back in 2005 and went on to make $158.8 million worldwide. The sequel will be lucky to make even a fraction of that.

The Chloe Grace Mortez-starrer If I Stay debuted in third place with $16.4 million, while the Jim Caviezel fact-based football drama When the Game Stands Tall opened in fifth place with $9.1 million.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy moved back up into first place with an estimated $17.6 million in its fourth week in release. It’s so far made $251.9 million domestically and has a worldwide total of $489.5 million.
