Warner Brothers’ adaptation of Stephen King has reportedly settled upon Matthew McConaughey as its star name of choice, with the studio keen to recruit him for either one of two major roles.
According to Deadline, the studio has McConaughey in mind for the role of the villainous Randall Flagg in the post-apocalyptic saga, a man who sets about forming his own civilisation in the wreckage of a plague-decimated America.
However, director Josh Boone is of the opinion that McConaughey would also make an excellent Stu Redman, the hero of the piece who finds himself immune to the aforementioned plague.
It’s thought that if McConaughey is keen on the project, and the scheduling works out okay for all parties, he will be offered the choice of either role, depending on which he’d rather play.
No release date has been confirmed for The Stand as yet, but after years of speculation and misfiring attempts to adapt the property, its exciting to hear that the wheels are moving at long last…
