Microsoft will start selling standalone Kinect cameras for Xbox One on October 7, the company announced today in a post on the Xbox Wire. It will cost $150, but you get more than just the camera. The bundle also comes with a digital copy of Dance Central Spotlight.

There was no mention of an Xbox One Kinect standalone unit that will be available without Dance Central Spotlight. That game launches next month and will sell for $10. The standalone Kinect camera for Xbox One will be available at retailers across the country.

Microsoft also took time today to reaffirm its commitment to Kinect, after some questioned whether the device was important to the company following the introduction of the Kinect-free Xbox One bundle in June. Today, Microsoft writes that “Xbox One is better with Kinect,” adding that your games, TV, and entertainment usage on the console “come alive” when using the camera.

The company also revealed a trend that might surprise you. According to Microsoft, since the $400 Xbox One launched in June, the company has seen “increased demand” for the $500 Xbox One bundle that comes with Kinect.

In June, Xbox boss Phil Spencer said making Kinect optional for Xbox One would lead to greater sales for the camera in the long run. This is because, he argues, people will buy an Xbox One without Kinect and later realize they are missing out, and will eventually buy one.
