53 Songs Your 19-Year-Old Intern Should Know From The 70s, 80s And 90s

Have you ever found yourself singing a classic, notable song around your friends or colleagues only to discover someone’s perplexed facial expression wondering what in the hell you’re singing?

Welcome to an average day in the office at HuffPost Black Voices, where we often have to educate our Editorial Fellow, Jessica Dickerson, about the many popular hits from yesteryear. Our beloved Jess is a certified 90s baby, and may have been too young to recall such epic groups like SWV, or songs like Brandy’s “I Want To Be Down.”

So in celebration of Black Music Month and Throwback Thursday we decided to cull a list of 53 songs that every intern or fellow (and all the 90s babies who you probably work with now) should know.

Let us know your favorites, and tell us what we missed in the comments section.

SWV – “Right Here”

Brandy – “I Wanna Be Down (Remix)”

Lil’ Kim – “Crush On You”

Zapp & Roger – “Computer Love”

LL Cool J – “Doin It”
