Bill Hader Drops A Major Stefon Bombshell

We thought we could trust Stefon to be the keeper of New York City’s weirdest spots on SNL’s “Weekend Update,” but Bill Hader made a big admission on HuffPost Live on Tuesday: Stefon was making everything up.

And we mean everything. He was never greeted at a door by a rabbi that looks like Joaquin Phoenix. There’s no round-the-clock puke party at a club named Booooooooof. And he never partied with human parking cones or danced the night away to the sounds of Donald Duck having a Vietnam nightmare. Stefon was a liar.

During a conversation about his new film “The Skeleton Twins,” Hader explained that he played the character believing those extravagant haunts did not exist.

“The joke was that he was bad at his job and that he’s lying,” Hader told HuffPost Live’s Ricky Camilleri in a Tuesday interview. “I always felt none of those things existed. I always took it as he’s lying.”

And that’s not the only Stefon theory Hader dropped on us.

“Who knows if he’s even real,” Hader continued. “I remember one person said Stefon is a figment of Seth’s imagination — he’s not really there. But I don’t know.”

Hader recalled how one of his favorite things about Stefon was that being gay was not the defining feature of his character. The same is true of his character in “Skeleton Twins,” he said, which hit theaters last Friday.
