Don Omar Arrested Over Alleged Domestic Violence

Reggaeton star Don Omar, née William Omar Landrón, was detained on Wednesday morning in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico over domestic violence accusations, El Nuevo Día first reported.

Landrón, 36,was arrested around 1:00 a.m on September 17 for allegedly threatening his 26-year-old unidentified girlfriend, local authorities told the Puerto Rican daily.

Lieutenant Aimée Alvarado, director of the Domestic Violence division of Bayamón, said that the investigation was in its preliminary stages but would look into patterns of past abuse.

“There are incidents reported on different dates, different situations,” Alvarado told Radio Isla 1320.

Authorities have refused to disclose who made the call to the police on Wednesday morning, according to Efe, but the girlfriend has accused the reggaeton star of domestic violence in the past.

The artist’s lawyer, Edwin Prado, told El Nuevo Día that the arrest was made “without reasonable grounds” and that the couple hadn’t seen each other in five days.

“The reality is that not even he [Don Omar] knows why he’s here,” Prado said. “The Police told him he was arrested because of Ley 54.”

Ley 54 is a law for the prevention and intervention in cases of domestic violence in Puerto Rico.

Don Omar is best known for hits like “Danza Kaduro” and for his role in the “Fast and Furious” film franchise.
