During “The Voice” season 7 premiere on Monday, some incredibly talented acts took the stage — sending chills down the backs of viewers and judges alike.
One performer in particular, 18-year-old Elyjuh Rene from Long Beach, California, stole our hearts. The tall braces-clad teen won over two out of the four judges as he crooned a beautiful version of Beyonce’s “XO.”
Rene, who was raised by a single mother, says on his NBC artist profile that his mom “is his biggest inspiration and the reason he sings today. He wants to be successful and use his time on ‘The Voice’ as a gift [to her].”
The talented teen was overwhelmed with emotion as judges Adam Levine and Pharrell Williams turned around in their chairs during his audition performance, then argued to get him on their teams.
“At the end I just started tearing up, it was the best feeling I’ve ever had,” Rene said in a post-performance interview.
Rene wound up choosing Pharrell as his coach; we can only hope the duo pulls out more Beyonce.
“The Voice” airs Monday and Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. ET on NBC.
