The Joker may officially have his partner.
Margot Robbie has been rumored for a role in David Ayer’s upcoming supervillain film, “Suicide Squad,” for the past several weeks. Now, according to Collider, the “Wolf of Wall Street” actress will reportedly play Harley Quinn, the accomplice and girlfriend of the Joker.
Along with Robbie, other actors rumored for “Suicide Squad,” which Ayer has described as “a ‘Dirty Dozen’ with supervillains,” are Tom Hardy, Will Smith, Cara Delevingne, Jesse Eisenberg and, most recently, Jared Leto. Over the weekend, news broke that Oscar-winner Leto was in talks to play the Joker, but that report has not been confirmed. Delevingne was previously rumored for the Quinn role, meaning she’s either out of the picture or set to play another character. Eisenberg is expected to reprise his Lex Luthor, who will debut in “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.”
Warner Bros. announced that “Suicide Squad” will follow “Batman V Superman” and is set to premiere Aug. 5, 2016. HuffPost Entertainment has reached out to Robbie’s rep for comment on the casting news. This post will be updated if and when one is received.
