For Ben Sinclair and Katja Blichfeld, making their wildly popular web series “High Maintenance” was something the married couple did for fun, sending it to friends for feedback. Two years later, Vimeo has made the show its flagship venture into original content, and it’s become a viable way to make a living for the duo.
The pair stopped by HuffPost Live on Tuesday to talk about how the show got started and why it’s gained such a following.
“We’d finish up some episodes and send it around and be like, ‘Hey, is this good? Would you watch more of this?'” Sinclair told host Ricky Camilleri. “As more and more people said yes, we kind of filmed enough episodes to where we could release three at a time.”
The show, which follows around an affable weed delivery man who only goes by “The Guy” (played by Sinclair), with essentially a new cast every week outside of the protagonist. The pair previewed season two of the show, which premiered Tuesday.
“The episodes have become quite a bit longer, and they kind of get out of the apartments of the clients and kind of delve even deeper into the lives of the clients because that’s really like the bread and butter of the show,” Sinclair said.
