A new TV spot has emerged online for Gotham, the TV prequel series following the exploits of a young Jim Gordon as he makes his way in America’s crime capital.

The new spot focuses on Ben McKenzie’s Gordon, a former war hero who finds himself in at the deep end after accepting the position of Detective in the Gotham City PD.

Indeed, this latest spot shows several of Gordon’s future nemeses skulking in the shadows as he makes his way towards a crime scene. “Someone needs to take a stand,” says his voiceover, “and that is where we come in.”

You might have noticed that the Joker wasn’t present in that little rogues gallery, and according to Bleeding Cool, the writers are going to enjoy themselves teasing the audience with his origin story…

According to the report, each episode in the first season will introduce a character who could well be a future Joker. Think clowns, card-sharps, or simply somebody with a prominent grin…

Gotham will make its US debut on 22 September 2014, with a UK air date to be confirmed.
