FOX has revealed a new trailer for Gotham that focuses on rookie detective James Gordon, the lead character for the Batman universe TV series.

The roughly 50-second teaser spot — seen below — follows Gordon (portrayed by Ben McKenzie) from behind as he enters a crime scene, showing flashes of Gotham’s criminals along the sidelines, like Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) and Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith). Gordon introduces himself by saying, “This is my city. I’ve come back because I care what’s happening to it.”

Gordon’s monologue wraps up after he finds a local newspaper story about his new detective position at the Gotham police department, which also reveals he’s a war hero. But that’s not what’s alarming: It’s the message that says “Welcome Home” in bright red letters scratched across the newspaper publication.
