It’s an interesting time to be an anime fan. Home entertainment releases, live streaming services and cinemas are providing more Japanese animation than ever, with the wait for content to be translated for an English-speaking audience growing shorter every month.

With that in mind, what follows is our round-up of anime we think you should take notice of this month – from original new series to spin-off movies and videogame adaptations.

Humans under threat from aliens use giant combat mechs to defend themselves. It’s a set-up we’ve seen so many times before that it makes post-apocalyptic zombie flesh seem fresh. Credit is due to Knights of Sidonia, then, for approaching such well-trodden ground from an unusual and interesting angle that focuses on the impact such events might have on a real-world population.
