Ally McBeal is joining the superhero universe.
Calista Flockhart, best known for “Ally McBeal,” is the most recent actress to join CBS’s drama “Supegirl.” Flockhart will play Cat Grant, a former journalist turned “self-made media magnate” and founder of her own global powerhouse company CatCo. The character was previously described as “J.Lo by way of Anna Wintour,” so that will make for an interesting work environment. In the DC Comics, Cat worked as a gossip columnist alongside Clark Kent and Lois Lane, but it’s unknown if either character will appear in this series.
“Supergirl” will follow 24-year-old Kara Zor-El, played by “Glee” star Melissa Benoist, who finally decides to embrace the Kryptonian superpowers she’s been hiding. Kara will work at CatCo as Cat’s assistant, alongside Jimmy Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), Kara’s love interest. Laura Benanti (“Nashville”) will also have a recurring role as Kara’s mother Alura Zor-El. “Supergirl” has a series commitment, but no release date yet.
