The Spirit remains Will Eisner’s most enduring creation. While his movie debut is better left forgotten, masked avenger Denny Colt continues to thrive on the printed page. After appearing as a syndicated newspaper strip for several decades, the found new life as a traditional comic book. Kitchen Sink Press published new Spirit stories in the mid-1990’s, while DC inducted the character into their universe in 2007 with Batman/The Spirit #1. That led to an ongoing solo series and a pulp-flavored team-up book called First Wave, where Denny Colt teamed with the likes of Batman and Doc Savage. Most recently, he appeared in IDW’s crossover comic The Rocketeer/The Spirit: Pulp Friction.
