The annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner, held this weekend in Washington, D.C., is a glitzy event where the journalists who cover the president get to rub elbows with Hollywood’s glitterati. The president also attends and speaks, which has led some media critics to call foul on the spectacle of prominent journalists being so chummy with their sources.
Over the years, the White House Corespondents’ Dinner has turned into something of a red carpet event, meaning that the type of journalist who spends her time poring over documents in a dark basement has been increasingly crowded out by the likes of Kim Kardashian.
Accordingly, a particular teaser clip from Vanity Fair for the documentary “Nerd Prom” proves to be absolutely delicious. In the clip, former Politico reporter Patrick Gavin decides to ask some of the celebrities attending the dinner to name a single White House correspondent. And, of course, no one can.
