Joni Mitchell Reps Deny Coma Report (UPDATED)

Joni Mitchell’s reps have posted an update on the singer’s ongoing health issues to her website on Tuesday. The Grammy-award winning singer-songwriter was hospitalized last month after being found unconscious in her home.

TMZ had reported earlier on Tuesday that Mitchell was in a coma and unresponsive, but her reps denied that claim.

“Joni is not in a coma,” a post on the ‘Big Yellow Taxi’ singer’s website read. “Joni is still in the hospital – but she comprehends, she’s alert, and she has her full senses.”

Here’s their full statement:

Contrary to rumors circulating on the Internet today, Joni is not in a coma. Joni is still in the hospital – but she comprehends, she’s alert, and she has her full senses. A full recovery is expected. The document obtained by a certain media outlet simply gives her longtime friend Leslie Morris the authority – in the absence of 24-hour doctor care – to make care decisions for Joni once she leaves the hospital. As we all know, Joni is a strong-willed woman and is nowhere near giving up the fight. Please continue to keep Joni in your thoughts.

As the Associated Press reported, Morris had filed legal paperwork to become Mitchell’s conservator.

Mitchell has been open about her health issues. Among them: Morgellons disease, a rare skin condition that has been the subject of an ongoing medical debate.

This is a developing story…

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story cited a TMZ report claiming that Joni Mitchell was in a coma. It has been updated with a statement from her reps.
