On May 4th of all days. Vanity Fair’s “Star Wars” issue broke massive news about “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” in the form of two stunning Annie Leibovitz photos, which revealed details about Adam Driver and Lupita Nyong’o’s characters.

The rumors were true. Driver’s Kylo Ren is indeed the bad guy, “command[ing] star troopers loyal to the evil First Order on the frozen plains of a secret base.” The photo shows him dressed in all black, leading storm troopers across a tundra.

Nyong’o will play a CGI character, Maz Kanata. We don’t yet know on which side of the Resistance she falls, but according to Vanity Fair, she’s a pirate.

Vanity Fair teased the info in a video preview of the photoshoot, showing Driver’s all-black look and Nyong’o’s face covered in motion capture tracking dots.

J.J. Abrams released the first teaser trailer for the movie last month month at the “Star Wars” Celebration panel, and at the time, fans learned more about the other newcomers’ characters: John Boyega’s Finn is in serious danger, Daisy Ridley’s Rey is a “self-sufficient scavenger” and Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron is “the best friggen pilot in the galaxy.”
