One would think Lady Edith had been through enough heartache by now, right? Wrong. It looks like things are only going to get worse for the middle Crawley sister in the new season of “Downton Abbey.”
First of all, it looks like Lady Mary will be bullying her younger sister more than ever.
“Mary’s mean to Edith especially in this season,” Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary) told reporters, according to CNN, noting that Mary doesn’t know about Edith’s illegitimate daughter and “certainly won’t get any sympathy from her unknowing sister.”
On top of the bullying, Laura Carmichael (Lady Edith) said things weren’t looking up much for Edith in the new season, meaning that, best case scenario, she just has to mope around feeling lonely for another season while her sister yells at her.
Lady Edith may be in for another season of tough times, but that doesn’t mean the overall tone of “Downton” Season 5 will be negative … especially now that we have all that death behind us.
“In the new season, we have the high-stakes drama, the laugh-out-loud comedy and the romance,” executive producer Gareth Neame told TVLine. “We have all of the characters doing the things people love to see them doing, but we have a few really nice twists and turns as well.”
The new season of “Downton Abbey” will hit PBS on January 4.
