Caitlyn Jenner, formerly known as Bruce Jenner, introduced herself to the world today in her Vanity Fair cover story. Soon after, Twitter flooded with praise for Jenner, including tweets of support from her family and celebrities. Jenner also broke President Obama’s Twitter record on Monday, gaining over one million followers within four hours of her first tweet.
After debuting on the cover of Vanity Fair in a photo shot by Annie Leibovitz, the Internet began saying that Jenner resembled other famous women. While some made comparisons to Geena Davis and Rene Russo, the general consensus was that Jenner looked a lot like Jessica Lange. The comparison even began trending on Twitter.
While The Daily Beast was interviewing Lange on Monday for an unrelated story, they asked the “American Horror Story” actress if she’d heard about the trending comparison. First, they gave Lange a quick explanation of what exactly “trending” meant — “Trending on Twitter because Caitlyn Jenner [is] on the cover,” Lange said. “You see, I don’t do any of this stuff, the Internet.”
Then Lange said she hadn’t yet seen the cover. “Oh, really?” she said in response to the comparison. “That’s so wonderful. Well, now I’m going to have to look for that picture.”
