“Veep” didn’t need to try any harder to master the art of the insult, but Sunday’s episode, “Testimony,” pulled it off anyway. With Selina Meyer’s staff called to testify before Congress on accusations of fraud in their handling of the president’s Families First bill, Amy and Dan were asked about the “Jonad File,” where the office documents the many heinous nicknames they’ve assigned to Jonah. Forced to endure a pelting of insults so Congress can challenge his colleagues’ respect for him, Jonah takes it like, well, a Pointless Giant.
Never has a single “Veep” script contained such an impressive roster of abuse. It was like creator Armando Iannucci, who wrote the episode but will leave the show after this season, had one final field day with the everyone’s favorite punching bag.
