Christopher Lee, the British actor known for his roles in “Dracula,” “Star Wars” and the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, has died. He was 93.

The beloved performer died Sunday at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London, according to The Guardian. He had been receiving treatment for respiratory problems and heart failure.

Lee first gained fame in the film industry during the 1950s, when he landed roles as The Creature in “The Curse of Frankenstein” and Count Dracula, perhaps his most recognizable performance.

“He imbued every character, however far-fetched, with a cold and granite grandeur, as if each one was a monument that would withstand whatever time and the weather could throw at him,” film critic Robbie Collin wrote in The Telegraph.

In 2009, Lee was knighted for his contributions to film and charity. He was slated to appear in a 9/11 drama called “The 11th” along with Uma Thurman.

He is survived by his wife, Birgit, whom he married in 1961, and their daughter, Christina.
