The cat that launched a thousand Internet memes is getting her own Lifetime original movie.
That’s right, Grumpy Cat is set to star in a new Christmas special for the network appropriately titled “Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever.” The frowning four-legged feline, who’s made appearances on talk shows, has her own merchandise line, boasts thousands of followers on Twitter and made appearances at more than a few awards shows, is getting her big break with a program perfect for the holidays.
The film will follow a pet store cat in need of attention and the little girl who befriends her. But the biggest news might be the fact that a voice will soon accompany that famous mug. The network is casting an actor to speak for the in-demand feline and shooting is set to start this summer. Lifetime VP of original movies Arturo Interian says the film will be a mix of “Home Alone” and “Die Hard,” and says it’s perfect for his network’s audience base. “It brings fun and irreverence that we haven’t had at Lifetime,” Interian told The Hollywood Reporter.
As for Grumpy Cat’s role, fans shouldn’t worry about her being overworked. After an exhausting schedule of book deals and TV appearances, the kitty’s manager — yes, she has one of those, too — is betting on her having a very “posh” trailer when filming begins.
