We’re now very much in the midst of the summer’s brand new anime season, this month’s recommendations reflecting that by focusing predominantly on fresh entries into our anime lives. Three of the four shows highlighted for August feature sword-wielding protagonists, but don’t let that fool you – all three are extremely different from one another. Indeed, despite the sword, one of them features barely any combat at all.

In fact, the one series without a sword-bearer is arguably that which is based most readily around conflict and competition; although the form it takes requires brains over brawn to succeed.

There’s always an enormous amount of new content to choose from at this time of year and these will stand you in good stead, providing an excellent jumping off point for what is quickly shaping up to be a great anime season. Enjoy!
