It’s been seven years since teen soap “The O.C.” went off the air, but this week the show proved it can still be a source of drama.
In an interview for Elle magazine’s “Hot Guy/Cold Drink” series, Cam Gigandet spoke illy of his time playing Kevin Volchok on the show. While admitting he’s a big fan of Ben McKenzie as an actor, the “Burlesque” star said the two did not get along on set.
“Actually Ben McKenzie was kind of mean to me. I hadn’t done anything at that point and he was a little bit of an ass,” the 31-year-old said. “But I love him. I think he’s a great actor and I love ‘Southland.'”
Gigandet played the love interest of Mischa Barton’s character Marissa Cooper, but during the interview, he avoided going into depth about his feelings toward the actress.
“Mischa? I didn’t really … Was she there?” he joked. “I don’t even have memories of her.”
Since appearing on “The O.C.,” Gigandet has moved on to appear in such films as “Easy A” and “Twilight,” and will play a leading role in the upcoming CBS drama “Reckless.” But from his place of current success, does the actor look back at the time spent in that specific little part of California as a useful stepping stone in his overall career trajectory?
“I learned a lot,” Gigandet said. “But the things that I remember now — none of them are good … Those kids were fucking miserable,” he continued. “They were just — they would not remember their lines on purpose. They were young. That said, I don’t talk to anyone I’ve ever worked with.”
