It’s all Bieber’s fault.
Earlier this year, Chelsea Handler announced she’d be leaving late night in August after a successful 7-year stint on the E! network with “Chelsea Lately.” There was talk of taking her show to Netflix and even rumors that Handler might replace departing David Letterman. But the real reason for snarky comedian’s exit is Justin Bieber (and the Kardashians, too).
According to The Daily Mail, Handler named the troubled pop star (and celebrities like him) as the reason she’s fed up with the business. “To be quite honest I don’t really care about Justin Bieber and I don’t want to talk about him anymore,” Handler said. “In order to make that happen I had to just stop doing my show.”
“You can sit around and complain about all that shit and the Kardashians all day but if you’re participating in it then what can you do?” said the funnywoman who built a career around mocking celebrity culture. “It really didn’t feel great doing the show and the only way to sort things out was to extricate myself from the entire situation.”
So, what does the Handler have for in store for future projects? She joked with Ellen DeGeneres about taking some much-needed time off, though her manager told The Hollywood Reporter earlier this year that Handler had many suitors and plenty of ideas for life after “Chelsea Lately.”
