Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner became the Internet’s least favorite Avengers when they called Scarlett Johansson’s character Black Widow a “slut” and a “whore” in a video interview with Digital Spy.

When asked about fans’ unmet hopes that Black Widow would get together with their characters, Captain America and Hawkeye respectively, instead of the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Renner said, “She’s a slut.” Evans laughed and agreed: “I was going to say something along that line … A complete whore.” Renner also joked that “she has a prosthetic leg anyway.”

Representatives for Renner and Evans did not respond to The Huffington Post’s request for comment.

The offhanded comments are not great looks for the “Avengers” extensive press tour, which also made headlines when Robert Downey Jr. walked out of an interview because a reporter asked him about his “dark period.” Or maybe, this is all part of Marvel’s plan to get you into theaters …
