Singer Chris Martin got real in an interview with an Australia radio show on Monday.
In a surprisingly candid chat, the Coldplay frontman talked about his state of mind with 2DayFM’s “Rove & Sam” show.
“Um, a few years ago I was in a low place in my life and was feeling kind of down and confused about everything,” said Martin on the show. “And then some friends gave me a book called Man’s Search for Meaning and a poem called ‘The Guest House’ by Rumi, who was an Afghanistani poet and kind of a teacher. And those those two things started me off on this whole journey that’s ended up a few years later now where I just feel so happy to be alive.”
Martin added, “That may sound a little simple but I suddenly feel very grateful for all these things in my life, I just feel happy to be alive and if it’s coming across then that’s cause it’s real.”
Martin famously “consciously uncoupled” with ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow in March of 2014 and later officially divorced in April 2015. Paltrow and Martin have two kids, Apple and Moses Martin, together.
Despite their divorce, Paltrow maintains that she and Martin work together to co-parent their kids.
“It’s’s been hard, and you know, we’ve gone through really difficult times with it but we’ve always said these children are our priority,” said Paltrow at a July 2015 BlogHer conference. “What that really means is, ‘Even though today, you hate me and you never want to see me again, we’re going to brunch, ’cause it’s Sunday and that’s what we’ll do!’ You know, like, ‘That’s what’s happening!’ The children are our commitment.”
