When it comes to the pay gap, there are both gender and racial inequalities.

Chris Rock noted the salary discrepancies women of color face while speaking with The New Yorker about “Saturday Night Live” star Leslie Jones. Rock first met Jones in the late ’80s and saw her struggle to break into the world of comedy as a black woman.

“Black women have the hardest gig in show business,” he told The New Yorker. “You hear Jennifer Lawrence complaining about getting paid less because she’s a woman — if she was black, she’d really have something to complain about.”

The comedian was referring to Lawrence’s October essay in Lenny Letter, in which she discussed discovering during the Sony email hack that her compensation for “American Hustle” was less than that of her male peers.

“When the Sony hack happened, and I found out how much less I was being paid than the lucky people with dicks, I didn’t get mad at Sony,” she wrote. “I got mad at myself. I failed as a negotiator because I gave up early.”

On average, a woman earns 78 cents for every $1 a man earns nationally, but a closer look at that statistic shows the breakdown is even lower for most women of color, the New Republic noted. Hispanic women earn 54 percent of what white men earn, Native American women 59 percent, black women 64 percent, and Pacific Islander and Native Hawaiian women 65 percent, per the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
