Alright, alright, alright: Matthew McConaughey and director Christopher Nolan made a surprise appearance at Comic Con Thursday, July 24 — a first for both at the San Diego convention — to discuss their sci-fi movie, “Interstellar.” The duo rewarded the audience with a brand new trailer that isn’t yet available to the public, multiple outlets are reporting.
The first, and thrilling, trailer for “Interstellar” dropped in May and showed McConaughey embarking on a space mission with Anne Hathaway. Jessica Chastain, Michael Caine and Casey Affleck all costar.
But what is the highly anticipated “Interstellar” actually about?
“Cooper is a pilot, an engineer, and a widowed pilot of two children where civilization is just sustaining,” McConaughey told the 6,000 panel attendees of his character, according to Variety. “There’s food, clean water, but they don’t need any explorers, no new bright ideas. Then something happens and the dream of being a pilot again knocks on his door.”
McConaughey said his character is forced to choose between his loyalty to the human race and his love for his family, per Time.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the new footage offers a few more clues about the plot: The astronauts are looking for another Earth where human life can thrive again, and stumble upon beautiful, albeit hostile, planets.
BuzzFeed adds that Nolan named “2001: A Space Odyssey,” “Star Wars” and “Blade Runner” as inspiration for the film.
Watch the original trailer below (Note: this is not the extended version shown at Comic Con) and get as excited as we are. “Interstellar” is slated for a November 7 release.
