Well, that didn’t last long.
After several days of hurling insults at Fox News — in particular, debate moderator Megyn Kelly — Donald Trump has made peace with the network, calling into “Fox & Friends” this morning.
“He’s baaack,” said co-host Steve Doocy. “Glad you’re back with us and glad we’re friends again.”
“We are friends, Steve,” Trump said. “We’ve always been friends and it’s great to be back with you.”
Trump’s appearance comes a day after Fox News Chairman and CEO Roger Ailes called the reality TV star to assure him that the network would treat him fairly.
“Donald Trump and I spoke today,” Ailes said in a statement Monday. “I assured him that we will continue to cover this campaign with fairness & balance. We had a blunt but cordial conversation and the air has been cleared.”
In the otherwise anodyne interview, Trump addresses the possibility of running as a third-party candidate, saying it was an option he reserved the right to use.
“I do want to run as a Republican,” Trump said. “But I do want to keep that door open in case I don’t get treated fairly.”
