Disney is preparing to mine the vaults for another remake of a timeless classic, with the news that a live-action update of Dumbo is apparently on the way.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new version of the film involves “the adaptation of the original movie, adding a unique family story that parallels Dumbo’s story.”
The report also reveals that Transformers: Age Of Extinction scribe Ehren Kruger will be in charge of putting together a script, and will also co-produce alongside Justin Springer.
Of course, the biggest challenge will be to create a CGI Dumbo that manages to swerve the inadvertent horror of, say, the recent Paddington update, but hopefully Disney can navigate that without too much legacy-trampling.
No release date has been pencilled in as yet, but the film will cement the studio’s push to update its old classics, with live-action versions of Cinderella, The Jungle Book and Beauty And The Beast all also on the horizon.
