Who needs historical accuracy anyway?
The trailer for Jackie Chan’s new movie “Dragon Blade” was made to win the Internet, which it did by blowing up on social media after its release. This epic action flick features Chan, John Cusack and Adrien Brody in a battle of Rome vs. China’s Han Dynasty. Yep. You read that right.
The movie is reportedly one of the most expensive Chinese-language films made, but that cost apparently didn’t go into fact-checking. It’s easy for history buffs to agonize over details such as the fact that the real Tiberius never led a giant attack on China or they probably didn’t speak any English back then. But why get hung up on the particulars? If we can believe “Pearl Harbor” had something to do with an Affleck-Beckinsale-Hartnett love triangle, Cusack and Chan taking on the Roman Empire isn’t that much of a stretch.
“Dragon Blade” is slated for a Chinese release date in February. U.S. dates have not been announced.
