As noted via a press release from Walt Disney Studios, “Frozen” has earned $733 million of its $1.27 billion lifetime gross during this calendar year. That means the animated blockbuster, which was released on Nov. 27, 2013, has made more money in 2014 around the world than all but four movies:
1. “Transformers: Age of Extinction” ($1.087 billion)
2. “Guardians of the Galaxy” ($770.1 million)
3. “Maleficent” ($757.7 million)
4. “X-Men: Days of Future Past” ($746 million)
Counting “Frozen,” three of the five biggest 2014 films have been released by Disney. Without “Frozen” included, Disney still holds that title: “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” ranks fifth on the list of 2014 releases with $714.1 million in ticket sales. Overall, Disney has surpassed $4 billion in total worldwide box office receipts for the second year in a row, the only two times that number has been reached in the studio’s history.
