Sports cartoonist Dave Rappoccio has created an entire “Game of Thrones” football league, and it’s absolutely fantastic.
“I wanted to combine my love of football and GoT,” Rappoccio wrote in his post for NFL humor site Kissing Suzy Kolber.
Rappoccio — who’s read the books, seen the show and spent hours on A Wiki of Ice and Fire — designed uniforms and logos and invented backstories for 12 teams that make up the Westeros football league.
The King’s Landing Conquerors, for example, play in The Great Sept Of Football arena and struggle with “sky-high expectations” under the management of the Targaryen siblings. Other teams include the Dragonstone Dragons, the Winterfell Wolves and the Castle Black Crows.
The teams are battling it out for the Valyrian Trophy, also known as “The Aegon.”
Rappoccio told The Huffington Post it took him about two weeks of planning and three full days of work to design everything.
Who’s his favorite to win? The Highgarden Gardeners, he said.
Rappoccio’s designs come as anticipation builds for the season 5 premiere of the HBO series, set for April 12, as well as George R. R. Martin’s release of another chapter of “The Winds Of Winter.” Let the games begin.
