Johnnemann Nordhagen, one of the founding members of Gone Home developer The Fullbright Company, has left to start his own studio.
Called Dim Bulb Games, the studio is currently only composed of Nordhagen. According to the founder, its mission is to experiment with fringe concepts and push the boundaries of video games. In a statement to Polygon, Nordhagen described his philosophy as a “vision for weird and wonderful things, perhaps tinged with melancholy and layered in dust, like an old lightbulb.”
Nordhagen was one of four ex-2K Marin developers who created The Fullbright Company in 2012. The company released Gone Home in 2013 to commercial and critical acclaim, including several Game of the Year awards.
It seems strange that Nordhagen would leave such a successful company. But he describes it as a means for personal exploration. “[The success of Gone Home] gave me the opportunity to try some new things, and work on some stuff that I wanted to pursue,” he explains. “Starting a new studio gives me the opportunity to do that.”
Nordhagen is keeping his plans for the future a secret, though. Nothing is known about his projects at this time.
You can, however, read about his last project, Gone Home. GameSpot thought that it was spectacular.
