Good News, Wizards! J.K. Rowling Reveals Hogwarts Is Free

Forget that trip to Gringotts, people. Hogwarts won’t cost you one Galleon.

Some recent online debate has called into question the actual price of tuition at Hogwarts, which is supposedly more than $43,000 per year. This obviously caused worry among wannabe wizards, but after a fan tweeted at J.K. Rowling about the issue, the Harry Potter author squashed all concern like a bludger.

@emmalineonline1 @micnews There’s no tuition fee! The Ministry of Magic covers the cost of all magical education!

Mic, which caused some of the initial debate with an article on the actual cost of attending the school, accepted Rowling’s explanation and got a hard dose of wizard reality from the author.

@micnews Far be it for me to tell you Muggles what to do – but yes. You do.

Even though none of us are actually going to the real Hogwarts, the news still feels like a monetary weight just got lifted off our shoulders, Wingardium Leviosa-style.

Yeah, that’s what we said, Hermione, LeviOsa. (Ron’s right, she needs to sort out her priorities.)

Still, according to Rowling’s tweet and as seen through Harry Potter’s visits to Diagon Alley, it appears things like books and wands may not be covered by wizard financial aid. So how about it, J.K.? Can we get some additional coverage for that, too? And as long as you’re doing that, can Universal’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park be included as well? Then it’d be free roller coasters and butterbeers for everyone!

Ten points to magical government programs!
