“Game of Thrones” may have been shut out from the Emmy’s top awards this year (Julia Louis-Dreyfus being the exception), but HBO is still setting its sights on more cinematic programming.

The premium cable network is teaming up with Paramount TV to turn Martin Scorsese’s “Shutter Island” into a television series. According to Deadline, they are developing a prequel to the 2010 thriller starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo as two U.S. Marshals investigating a hospital for the criminally insane.

The TV series will tentatively be called “Ashecliffe,” after the name of the hospital, and will take place before the events of the 1954-set film to tell the secret history of the institution. Scorsese will direct the pilot and Dennis Lehane, author of the “Shutter Island” novel, will write the screenplay. Casting has not been announced, but we’re really hoping DiCaprio will somehow show up in the series, if only so that even more movie stars will be at future Emmy ceremonies. If Leo can’t get an Oscar, maybe he can at least score a golden-winged lady.
