No iPhone, no problem.
HBO Now, the standalone streaming service announced in March, is at last officially available on platforms beyond Apple’s iPhone, iPad and Apple TV.
The company announced Thursday that you can now access HBO Now on Android phones, Android tablets and Amazon Fire tablets. (What, no love for the Fire Phone?) It is also “coming soon” to the Amazon Fire TV, Fire TV stick and Google’s Chromecast device.
HBO Now allows people to access HBO’s original programming, like “Game of Thrones,” in addition to older series — “Sex and the City,” “The Sopranos,” etc — and movies. It costs $14.99 a month.
Previously, HBO Now was exclusive to Apple devices, perhaps for easy access to the many iTunes customers who have their credit card information on file.
If you’re interested in taking the plunge, HBO Now has a 30-day free trial period. The new apps don’t appear to be available yet, but likely will be later today. Keep refreshing!
