Jack Antonoff Opens Up About Depression: 'It's Manageable If You Know You're Not Alone'

Jack Antonoff calls his past panic attacks “some of the most terrifying moments of my entire life,” but that’s precisely why the Bleachers frontman is speaking about them publicly.

“It was such trauma to go through, but then beyond having those experiences, which a lot of us have, I was so ashamed of it,” Antonoff told HuffPost Live in the clip above. “I didn’t know what was happening, so I didn’t talk about it.”

The rocker recalled how hearing of others’ battles with depression made him feel “not better, but not alone” and “way less scared.”

“It’s so manageable if you know you’re not alone in it, and it’s completely not manageable if you are alone in it,” he explained. “So I think talking about it is just the most important thing. It’s important for other people to hear. It’s important for the people going through it to talk about it.”

Antonoff, who just released his docuseries “Thank You And Sorry,” gave a detailed breakdown of his first panic attack, which he described as feeling like “a terrible acid trip.” Watch him recount the experience in the clip below, and catch the rest of his conversation with HuffPost Live here.
