Jennifer Lopez Is Returning To TV As A Cop On 'Shades Of Blue'

Watch out Sgt. Olivia Benson, Jenny from the block is joining the police force. Jennifer Lopez revealed the promo for NBC’s new cop drama, “Shades of Blue” on Twitter this week.

Aside from her judging gig on “American Idol” and brief cameos on “How I Met Your Mother” and “Will & Grace,” Lopez hasn’t appeared on a TV series since CBS’s “Hotel Malibu,” which ran for one season in 1994. On “Shades of Blue,” the actress and singer will star as Det. Harlee Santos, a single mother who’s love for her daughter keeps her grounded on the job. Donning a police uniform alongside Lopez are Ray Liotta as Lt. Bill Wozniak and Drea De Matteo as Tess Nazario, a cop and mother of three.

The 13-episode series follows the detectives who keep their city safe, but are also corrupt. Lopez is producing alongside Ryan Seacrest, among others, while Barry Levinson is directing. Check out the promo in which Lopez and the cast talk about the shades of grey (and blue, duh) between right and wrong when it comes to crime. “Shades of Blue” does not yet have a premiere date.
